Free Networking Morning Tea
November 6th

WISH would like to invite you to come and meet members of the support group community and to learn more about the value of self help and support groups.  We would also like your input into our Training Program for 2008. To register your interest contact our new Community Development Officer, Christine Keating at cdo@wish.org.au.  Christine would be happy to answer any questions you have about starting a support group and is available to assist existing groups with ongoing support and development.  We look forward to seeing you in November.

Free AIM Community Leadership Training
WISH is offering a free place to a member support group to attend the Australian Institute of Management’s newly developed two-day Community Leadership Program on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th August 2007.

This program is being made available exclusively to organisations who received the AIM scholarship earlier this year.

Whilst the objective of the program is to provide development for managers and supervisors that will help them manage staff (both paid and unpaid) the skills will also be useful for those managing groups.

Please email your expression of interest to info@wish.org.au. Please note that those selected will need to be available to attend both days of the program.

Vacancies @ WISH
Due to staff resignations and a recent re-structure of WISH we have the following two vacancies for which we are seeking friendly, flexible and well organised people to join our small team.

Administrative Officer (30 hours per week Monday to Thursday + 1 Friday per month) Salary SACS Level 5.1 $21.30 per hour + superannuation
The occupant will oversee the smooth management of administrative systems within the organisation. Required skills include:
o Demonstrated experience in office management including website content management & database management. Knowledge of DBText Databases would be an advantage
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o Well developed report writing skills and experience in the production of written and electronic publications.
o An understanding of community-based organisations an advantage.

Administrative Assistant (16 hours per week – 4 hours per day (flexible) Monday to Thursday) Salary SACS Level 3.1 $18.08 per hour + superannuation
The occupant of this position must possess well developed administrative and interpersonal skills, a high level of maturity and excellent phone manner. Other required skills include:
o Experience in database operation, MS Office and internet essential
o Good time management skills
o Strong interpersonal skills
o High level of accuracy
o An understanding of community-based organisations an advantage. The position is for an initial period of three months with an option to extend.

Type 2 Diabetes Clinical Study
Male and female volunteers required for a clincal study testing a natural sweetener in diabetes control. You may be suitable for the study if you are aged between 18 and 75 years, have not been on any diabetes medications within the last three months and have no other major illnesses. GRANTS

Community Services Industry Awards 2007
Entries are now being called for the Community Services Industry Awards 2007. This program recognises and celebrates individuals and organisations for their leadership, community development focus and creative way of working. The Department for Child Protection in conjunction with the Department for Communities invites you to enter or nominate an outstanding person, program or service that has helped to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals, families and communities.
Winners in each category will receive a $5,000 grant from Principal Partner, Lotterywest. Nominations and entries close at 4pm on Friday 14 September 2007. Research Grants
Lotterywest has broadened the opportunity for research grants. In keeping with Lotterywest’s overall grants approach which supports organisations to do what they do best – enhance the lives of West Australians – applications can now be considered for research projects that will inform policy or practice and address quality of life issues in a range of areas including social, cultural, economic, geographic and environmental. Not-for-profit Community Organisations and Local Government Authorities are able to apply for research grants that add meaningfully to the body of knowledge in a particular area and have potential Statewide application.  Applications can be made at any time. Autism Research Funds
The Apex Foundation Trust for Autism is offering grants of up to $10,000 for research projects related to Autism.  For details and application forms see www.autismvictoria.org.au/research or contact Amanda Golding at Autism Victoria (03) 9885 0533.

Women's Grants
Women working in either a voluntary or paid capacity in the non-government sector can apply for one of five grants of up to $5000 allowing individual women to undertake projects to benefit other women in WA.  For application packages contact the office of Swan Hills MLA, Jaye Radisich on 9296 7688.  Applications close August 31.

Grants in Australia:  Management and Accountability Made Easy for Not-For-Profit Organisations
CPA Australia has published a free, online manual to help not-for-profit organisations manage grants and satisfy accountability requirements. This manual covers key aspects of grants management, including applying for a grant, accepting a grant, financial management, reporting and acquittal, and audit and verification. Aims to provides knowledge obtained through individual experiences and information obtained from Thyroid Australia with whom the group is associated.

GranPower
GranPower is a not for profit loving support group run by volunteers for grandparents who have been denied contact with their grandchildren.

Augusta-Margaret River Chronic Pain Support Group
This group is in the process of getting started to share ideas and understanding for people who suffer chronic pain.

National Stroke Week

Free blood pressure checks will be offered September 17th - 19th from 11:30am - 1:30pm on the Murray Street Mall, Perth City in an effort to raise awareness of high blood pressure as the #1 causal risk factor for stroke.

6th annual 'As We Are' Art Exhibition 2007

'As We Are' in partnership with CATA Group Inc and Nulsen Haven Inc invite artists to enter this exhibition featuring the work of artists with an intellectual disability and encourages these artists and their support network to be part of this unique event. Entry is free and the sale of artwork is administrated at no charge to the artist. Awards will be chosen and presented at the event launch on 19th October 2007.
