Online Survey

In 2008 WISH will be celebrating 25 years of service to the West Australian community. For us this is not just about WISH but the whole of the self help movement here in WA.

We need your help in deciding how to make these celebrations both meaningful and memorable for our members and the wider community. We are also thinking about a name change to better reflect our purpose and vision.  Share your ideas by filling in a short online survey.

Do you want radio coverage for your Group?
Tony Serve, journalist, presenter on 6PR and facilitator of media workshops has kindly offered time on his upcoming time slot on the radio. He is going to be on from midnight to dawn each weekend in March and would like to use this opportunity for groups to be heard. He understands self help and will assist the interview in any way possible.

Tony has offered the opportunity to prerecord the interview which he can then edit and present in the best light. If you wish you are welcome to remain anonymous. He suggests that this time slot is best for issues that concern over 50’s as these are the majority of the listeners at that time. If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Melva on 9228 4488 or email cdo@wish.org.au to have your information forwarded to Tony.

WISH is coming to the South West Region to extend the contacts made last year. This year WISH plans to hold morning tea as an opportunity for self help groups and interested parties to network.

The morning tea will provide opportunities to meet with others who understand the range of issues that affect self help groups. Come and share your successes, discuss some of the issues you are faced with and make some valuable contacts. Come with ideas on where you would like to take these meetings, for example guest speakers, workshops or contacts with local organisations.

Melva (Community Development Officer) will be in the Bunbury region on the 13th March and is happy to meet with any interested group or service provider to discuss how WISH can assist your support group. Please contact Melva on cdo@wish.org.au to organise a time that suits. For more information click here

Disability Access and Inclusion Plan
The City of South Perth Council endorsed a draft ‘Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2006 - 2010’ at the December 2006 Ordinary Council Meeting. The plan is being developed to ensure that the South Perth community is accessible for and inclusive of people with disabilities, their families and their carers. It documents the way in which the City will work to create a community that is accessible to everyone.

The City is seeking community comment on the plan until Friday 23 February 2007 and feedback received during this ‘out for comment’ period will be considered. A report to consider the adoption of the final DAIP for the City to be presented to Council.

Click here to view the plan and contact the City Community Development Coordinator on 9474 0787 or email tomp@southperth.wa.gov.au to make a comment or access further information.
